CCTV drain inspection and pipe location
Stop guessing what is in the line. A camera survey shows you exactly what is there, and a locate tells you precisely where it is.
When a camera survey earns its money
To establish whether you have a maintenance problem or a structural defect.
Drainage is not covered by a standard building inspection, and a full replacement is not a small number.
Documented evidence of the fault, its location and its likely cause.
Determining which lot or which part of common property the fault sits in, before anyone starts arguing about it.
Locate and mark services so a machine does not find them the hard way.
Confirming lines were not damaged, crushed or wrongly connected during construction.
Survey, locate, mark, report
The camera goes through the line while we watch it in real time. Where we find something worth noting, we use the sonde in the camera head with a surface locator to mark the exact position and depth on the ground above.
That combination is the point. Footage alone tells you there is a crack forty metres in. A locate tells you it is under the driveway, one and a half metres down, right there. One of those you can quote a repair against.
What you receive
- Recorded footage of the survey.
- A written report describing what was found, where and what it means.
- Marked positions on site, with depths where relevant.
- A recommendation on what needs doing, and what can safely be left alone.
- A price for any rectification, against a defined scope.
CCTV and locating questions
What does a CCTV drain inspection show?
The internal condition of the line — cracks, root intrusion, collapses, displaced joints, bellies holding water, poor fall, foreign objects and incorrect connections. We can also locate and mark the position and depth of the fault from the surface as we go.
Do I get a copy of the footage?
Yes. You get the recorded footage and a written report describing what was found and where. It is prepared so a strata committee, a landlord, an insurer or a solicitor can understand it without having been on site.
Should I get a drain inspection before buying a property?
It is worth considering, particularly with an older home, mature trees near the boundary, or any sign of previous drainage work. A drainage fault is not covered by a standard building inspection and a full replacement is a significant cost. Finding it before settlement is considerably better than after.
Can you find where a pipe runs, not just what's wrong with it?
Yes. We run pipe location equipment and can trace the route and depth of a line and mark it out on the surface. This is standard before excavation, and it is the difference between a clean dig and an expensive strike.
Can you tell whether the fault is on my side of the boundary?
In most cases, yes. Locating the fault relative to your boundary and the connection point determines who is responsible for the repair, which matters a great deal when the bill arrives.
Want to know what's actually in the line?
A camera survey costs a fraction of what it costs to dig in the wrong place. Call and we will talk through whether it is worth doing.
